Ingredients
Meat and Vegetables
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 24 ounces ground beef (1½ pounds)
Spices
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Heat the Griddle: Set your griddle over medium-high heat and allow it to get hot to ensure even cooking.
- Sauté Onions: Drizzle 2 tablespoons of olive oil on the hot griddle and add the chopped medium onion. Sauté the onions until they become translucent, releasing their sweetness.
- Add Garlic: Add the minced garlic to the griddle and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant, careful not to burn it.
- Cook Ground Beef: Add the 24 ounces of ground beef to the griddle. Use a spatula to break the meat apart and cook until it is browned thoroughly and no pink remains, ensuring it’s cooked through.
- Season the Meat: Sprinkle 2 teaspoons chili powder, 1 teaspoon ground cumin, 1 teaspoon smoked paprika, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper evenly over the beef. Stir well to combine all the flavors.
- Simmer and Meld Flavors: Let the seasoned meat cook for an additional 2–3 minutes to allow the spices to infuse fully into the beef.
- Serve: Remove the seasoned taco meat from the griddle and serve immediately. Use it as a filling for tacos, burritos, bowls, or your favorite dishes. Garnish with toppings like shredded cheese, lettuce, salsa, or avocado as desired.
Notes
- You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
- Adjust the chili powder and spices according to your preferred level of heat and flavor.
- If you don’t have a griddle, a large skillet or frying pan can be used instead.
- Serve immediately for best flavor and texture; leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated.
- Adding fresh lime juice or cilantro as garnish can enhance the flavor further.
