Carrot Patch Dirt Cups are a fun and festive dessert perfect for spring or Easter celebrations. Layers of creamy chocolate pudding and crushed Oreo cookie ‘dirt’ are topped with vibrant orange chocolate-covered strawberries that resemble carrots, creating a whimsical and delicious treat that kids and adults will love.

  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

For the Pudding

  • 2 (3.0 ounce) boxes of chocolate pudding mix
  • 4 cups cold whole milk
  • 20 Oreos, crushed

For the Carrot Toppers

  • 12 fresh strawberries
  • 10 ounces white chocolate melting wafers
  • Orange food coloring (or red + yellow food coloring)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pudding: In a large bowl, combine the chocolate pudding mix with 4 cups of cold whole milk. Stir vigorously for two minutes until the mixture is well blended. Set it aside to allow the pudding to set for about five minutes.
  2. Melt the white chocolate: Place the white chocolate melting wafers in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second increments, stirring between each, until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
  3. Color the chocolate: Add a few drops of orange food coloring to the melted white chocolate. Stir thoroughly until you achieve a vibrant orange color, adjusting with red and yellow if needed to perfect the shade.
  4. Coat the strawberries: Holding each fresh strawberry by the stem, dip it into the orange melted chocolate to coat completely. Place the dipped strawberries with stems up on parchment paper to set. After they have hardened, use a spoon to drizzle additional melted chocolate over the strawberries for extra coverage and decoration. Let set again.
  5. Assemble the dirt cups: In small serving cups, spoon in a layer of the chocolate pudding. Sprinkle a generous amount of crushed Oreos on top to resemble dirt. Top each cup with two of your chocolate-covered strawberries standing upright, mimicking carrots sticking out of the dirt.

Notes

  • You can use reduced-fat milk to lighten the dessert slightly if desired.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute the pudding mix and milk with non-dairy alternatives.
  • Make sure the strawberries are fully dry before dipping to help the chocolate adhere better.
  • These can be prepared a few hours ahead and refrigerated until serving.
  • Use fresh strawberries with green stems intact for best visual effect.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator and consume within 2 days for optimum freshness.
