Sliders and Filling
- 12 count package slider rolls
- 2/3 cup basil pesto (homemade or store-bought, divided)
- 2 cups cooked and shredded chicken (rotisserie chicken recommended)
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Garlic Butter Topping
- 6 Tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 4 cloves garlic, finely minced
- 2 tsp minced fresh parsley
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare baking pan: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking pan and set it aside for assembling the sliders.
- Slice the slider rolls: Place the unwrapped slider roll package on a cutting board. Using a serrated bread knife and steadying the rolls with one hand, carefully slice horizontally through all the rolls, keeping them connected as one section.
- Separate top and bottom halves: Lift the entire top half of the rolls off the bottom half, ensuring they remain connected, and place the bottom half into the prepared pan.
- Make garlic butter mixture: In a small bowl, combine melted butter, minced garlic, and fresh parsley. Stir to blend and set aside.
- Spread pesto on bottom rolls: Evenly spread half of the basil pesto over the bottom half of the rolls in the baking pan.
- Add chicken and cheese layers: Distribute the shredded chicken evenly over the pesto layer, then sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the chicken.
- Top with remaining pesto and rolls: Spread the remaining pesto on the cut side of the top half of the rolls. Carefully place this half, cut side down, over the cheese layer.
- Brush with garlic butter and season: Brush the prepared garlic butter mixture over the top of the slider rolls. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste, if desired.
- Bake covered and uncovered: Loosely cover the baking pan with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 5–10 minutes, or until the sliders are hot and the cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
Notes
- Use a rotisserie chicken to save time and add flavor to the shredded chicken.
- For extra crispiness, uncover the sliders for the last 10 minutes of baking.
- Feel free to use store-bought pesto or homemade for best flavor.
- Leftover sliders can be refrigerated and reheated in the oven or microwave.
- Adjust garlic quantity to your taste preference for milder or stronger garlic flavor.
