Ingredients
Pastry
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed according to package directions
Filling & Toppings
- ½ cup canned whole berry cranberry sauce
- ¼ cup crumbled feta cheese
- 1 tsp minced fresh rosemary, for garnish
Egg Wash
- 1 egg plus 1 tsp water, well beaten
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
- Prepare the Puff Pastry Base: Lay the thawed puff pastry sheet flat on the baking sheet. Use the beaten egg wash to brush a ¼ inch border along all four edges of the pastry. This border helps contain the filling during baking.
- Spread the Filling: Evenly spread the cranberry sauce over the puff pastry surface, staying inside the egg-washed border. Then sprinkle the crumbled feta cheese evenly on top of the cranberry sauce to create a balanced savory and sweet layer.
- Roll the Pastry: Starting from one of the short ends, tightly roll the puff pastry into a log shape, similar to a cinnamon roll. Pinch the seam shut with your fingers to seal the roll, and then place the roll seam side down on a cutting board.
- Slice the Pinwheels: Using a serrated knife, slice the roll into ½ inch thick slices. Carefully arrange these slices cut side up on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart for even baking.
- Apply Egg Wash: Brush the tops and sides of each pinwheel slice generously with the remaining egg wash. This will give them a beautiful golden-brown color once baked.
- Bake to Golden Perfection: Bake the pinwheels in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes or until the puff pastry is puffed up and golden brown.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and sprinkle with the minced fresh rosemary. Serve the pinwheels warm for the best flavor and texture. Enjoy your delicious appetizer!
Notes
- Make sure your puff pastry is fully thawed to avoid tearing when rolling.
- Use a serrated knife to slice the pinwheels for clean cuts without squishing the pastry.
- Do not overfill with cranberry sauce, or the pastry may become soggy.
- For added texture, you can sprinkle chopped nuts like pecans before rolling.
- These pinwheels can be made ahead and frozen before baking; just bake from frozen adding a few extra minutes.
