Crispy Asian Brussels Sprouts are oven-roasted to golden perfection and tossed in a flavorful, tangy-sweet, and mildly spicy Asian-inspired sauce. This easy-to-make side dish combines the natural crispiness of roasted Brussels sprouts with a glossy, savory glaze featuring soy sauce, honey, and chili paste, making it a delightful addition to any meal.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Brussels Sprouts

  • 1 lb. fresh Brussels sprouts
  • 1.5 tbsp. olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Asian Sauce

  • 2 tbsp reduced sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1.5 tsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp Asian garlic chili paste (such as sambal oelek or Sriracha, adjust to heat preference)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Cover a baking sheet with aluminum foil and set it aside for easy cleanup.
  2. Prepare Brussels Sprouts: Rinse the Brussels sprouts under cool water, trim off the tough ends, and cut them in half or quarters if they’re very large. Dry them thoroughly with a towel to ensure they roast properly and become crispy.
  3. Season Brussels Sprouts: Toss the dried sprouts with olive oil. Lightly season with salt and pepper, keeping in mind that the sauce contains soy sauce, which adds saltiness, so avoid over-salting.
  4. Roast Brussels Sprouts: Arrange the sprouts in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, making sure they don’t overlap to promote even roasting. Roast in the oven for 20-25 minutes, until they become browned and crispy on the edges.
  5. Prepare Asian Glaze: While the sprouts roast, combine soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, Asian garlic chili paste, and garlic powder in a small saucepan. Bring this mixture to a simmer over medium heat and cook for 3-4 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and becomes glossy.
  6. Toss and Serve: Once the Brussels sprouts are roasted, remove them from the oven and immediately toss them with the hot Asian glaze until evenly coated. Serve warm as a delicious side dish.

Notes

  • Ensure Brussels sprouts are dry before roasting to maximize crispiness.
  • Adjust the amount of chili paste according to your preferred spice level.
  • For extra flavor, consider sprinkling toasted sesame seeds or chopped scallions before serving.
  • Use reduced sodium soy sauce to better control the saltiness of the dish.
  • Leftovers can be reheated in the oven or air fryer to maintain crispness.
