A vibrant and crunchy Dorito Taco Salad combining seasoned ground beef, fresh vegetables, nacho cheese Dorito chips, and a mix of flavorful toppings. This quick and easy American recipe makes a perfect party dish or family meal that can be customized with your favorite salad extras and served with tangy Catalina dressing.

  • Total Time: 23 mins
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

Salad Base

  • 1 lb Lean Ground Beef
  • 1/2 Cup Water
  • 1 Package Romaine Lettuce
  • 1 Pint Cherry Tomatoes or 2 Medium-Sized Tomatoes, diced
  • 1 Bag Dorito Nacho Cheese Chips or Gluten-Free Alternative

Additional Ingredients (Optional)

  • 16 oz Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • 15 oz Black or Pinto Beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 Small Red Onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 Can Fiesta Corn, drained
  • 1 Can Black Olives, drained
  • 1-2 Avocados, sliced or diced

Dressing

  • Catalina Dressing, to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the Ground Beef: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the lean ground beef until thoroughly browned and no longer pink, breaking it up with a spatula. Drain any excess fat and return the beef to the skillet.
  2. Add Seasoning: Sprinkle the taco seasoning over the cooked beef, pour in 1/2 cup water, and stir well. Simmer over medium heat until the mixture thickens and is well combined, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Prepare Vegetables: Wash and chop the romaine lettuce. Dice the cherry or medium tomatoes into bite-sized pieces. Add these to a large salad bowl.
  4. Combine Ingredients: Add the seasoned ground beef to the lettuce and tomatoes. Incorporate any of the additional ingredients you prefer – such as shredded cheddar cheese, beans, red onion, corn, black olives, and avocado slices.
  5. Toss and Serve: Gently stir to combine all components evenly. Serve the salad topped with Dorito Nacho Cheese chips for crunch and drizzle with Catalina dressing on the side or mixed in according to your taste.
  6. Store Leftovers: Place any leftovers in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator to keep fresh.

Notes

  • Use gluten-free Dorito chips if you require a gluten-free version of this recipe.
  • Feel free to customize the additional ingredients based on your preferences or availability.
  • For best texture, add the Dorito chips just before serving to maintain their crispiness.
  • Catalina dressing adds a tangy sweetness but can be substituted with your favorite taco dressing or salsa.
