Ingredients
Milk Base
- 2 cups plain milk (oat milk recommended)
Sweetener
- 1 to 3 teaspoons maple syrup or honey (optional)
Spices and Flavorings
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- Pinch of black pepper
- Pinch of fine sea salt
Instructions
- Steam or Heat the Milk: For a hot latte, steam the milk using a frother until warm and frothy, or heat in a saucepan over medium heat until nearly simmering. Whisk briefly to create foam. For the iced version, heat 1/2 cup of milk or hot water until nearly simmering.
- Mix Spices and Sweetener: In a heatproof mug (hot) or glass/measuring cup (iced), add sweetener (if using), vanilla extract, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, black pepper, and sea salt. Whisk together with the hot milk (or water for iced) until thoroughly combined and spices are dissolved.
- Combine and Assemble: For hot latte, pour the steamed milk (without foam) into the mug with the spice mixture, stir to combine, then add the milk foam on top and stir briefly. For iced latte, fill a large glass with ice, pour the warm spiced milk mixture over the ice, then add remaining cold milk and stir gently to combine.
- Taste and Adjust Sweetness: Taste your golden milk and add more sweetener if desired.
- Serve: Serve immediately while warm for the hot latte, or cold for the iced latte. Enjoy the comforting and healthful drink!
Notes
- You can substitute any plain or plant-based milk like almond, soy, or coconut milk.
- The pinch of black pepper enhances the absorption of turmeric’s active compound, curcumin.
- Adjust sweetness to your preference or omit for a less sweet version.
- Foaming the milk is optional but adds a nice texture to the hot latte.
- This recipe is best consumed fresh for optimal flavor and nutrient benefit.
