Ingredients
Asparagus
- 1 pound asparagus spears, rinsed, trimmed, and patted dry
Seasoning
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- ¼ teaspoon fresh ground black pepper (or to taste)
Optional Garnish
- 1 small lemon
- 2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat Grill: Heat an outdoor grill to about 400˚F to 425˚F to ensure it is hot enough to properly sear and cook the asparagus evenly.
- Prepare Asparagus: Place the rinsed, trimmed, and dried asparagus spears in a mixing bowl. Toss them thoroughly with olive oil, salt, and pepper to evenly coat each spear with seasoning.
- Grill Asparagus: Transfer the seasoned asparagus spears to the grill, placing them over direct heat. Close the grill lid and cook for 8 to 10 minutes until the spears become tender yet retain a slight crispness. Flip the asparagus using tongs halfway through the cooking time for even grill marks and cooking.
- Remove from Grill: Once cooked, carefully remove the asparagus from the grill and place them onto a serving platter to prepare for garnishing.
- Add Garnishes: If using, squeeze fresh lemon juice over the grilled asparagus, then sprinkle with grated parmesan cheese to add brightness and a savory depth of flavor.
- Serve: Serve the grilled asparagus immediately as a delicious and healthy side dish accompanying your meal.
Notes
- Trim the woody ends of the asparagus to improve texture and flavor.
- If you prefer milder seasoning, reduce salt or omit the parmesan cheese.
- For a smoky flavor, use charcoal or wood chips in the grill.
- Asparagus can be grilled on a grill pan indoors if outdoor grilling is not available.
- Adjust grilling time slightly depending on spear thickness to avoid overcooking.
