Ingredients
Teriyaki Sauce
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- ¾ cup water (for sauce)
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated or minced
- 2 tablespoons corn starch
- ¼ cup water (for corn starch slurry)
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
Stir Fry
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 2 teaspoons sesame oil
- 3 cups broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)
- 1 small onion, small diced
- 1 cup shredded carrots
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Teriyaki Sauce: In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine ¾ cup water, soy sauce, minced garlic, grated ginger, honey, and brown sugar. Stir the mixture to combine well and bring it to a low boil.
- Thicken the Sauce: While the sauce is heating, whisk together ¼ cup water and corn starch in a separate bowl until completely dissolved to form a slurry. Slowly add this slurry to the boiling sauce while stirring continuously. Allow the sauce to thicken, then promptly remove from heat. Stir in the orange zest and set the sauce aside until ready to use.
- Cook Aromatics and Turkey: Heat sesame oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for several minutes until softened. Add the ground turkey and cook thoroughly until it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F, approximately 7 to 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Add Vegetables: Incorporate the broccoli florets and shredded carrots into the skillet. Cook until the vegetables are heated through and tender-crisp, stirring frequently to combine flavors.
- Combine Sauce and Simmer: Reduce heat to low, pour the prepared teriyaki sauce over the turkey and vegetables, and gently stir to coat everything evenly. Simmer for several minutes to meld flavors and ensure the dish is heated through.
- Serve: Remove from heat and serve your Ground Turkey Teriyaki Stir Fry over rice or as desired, enjoying a balanced and tasty meal.
Notes
- Ensure the ground turkey reaches an internal temperature of 165°F for safe consumption.
- Fresh broccoli can be substituted with frozen; just increase cooking time slightly.
- This dish pairs beautifully with steamed rice or quinoa for a complete meal.
- Adjust the sweetness by altering the amount of brown sugar or honey according to your preference.
- For extra crunch, consider adding water chestnuts or snap peas during the vegetable stage.
