Ingredients
French Toast Mixture
- 3 large eggs
- ¾ cup half and half (or whole milk)
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 small pinch salt
Main
- 1 (12 pack) Kings sweet Hawaiian Rolls
- 4 tablespoons butter (salted or unsalted)
Toppings
- Powdered sugar
- Fresh fruit
- Syrup
Instructions
- Prepare the egg mixture: Crack the eggs into a large bowl and add the half and half. Whisk thoroughly until fully combined with no visible egg whites.
- Add flavorings: Stir in the vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, brown sugar, and a pinch of salt. Whisk again to blend all ingredients smoothly.
- Poke rolls: Use a toothpick or skewer to make a few holes in the bottom of each Hawaiian roll to help the egg mixture soak in better.
- Soak rolls: Dip a few rolls at a time into the egg mixture, allowing them to soak for about 30 seconds. Avoid soaking longer to prevent the rolls from becoming too mushy.
- Heat skillet: Warm a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat to ensure even cooking without burning the outside.
- Melt butter: Add about 2 tablespoons of butter to the skillet and let it melt completely. Add more butter for subsequent batches.
- Cook rolls: Place soaked rolls in the pan and cook, turning every 30 seconds per side until each side (all four sides, top, and bottom) is golden brown.
- Serve: Once cooked, serve the rolls immediately. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar and top with fresh berries and maple syrup. Bacon makes a great savory side to accompany these sweet rolls.
Notes
- Use medium-low heat to prevent burning while ensuring the inside cooks properly.
- Only soak the rolls for about 30 seconds to maintain texture, avoiding mushy results.
- Cooking in small batches (about 4 rolls at a time) helps with even browning and flipping.
- Butter can be salted or unsalted based on preference; it adds richness and helps with browning.
- This recipe yields a large batch, perfect for serving a group of 12.
- Serve with powdered sugar, fresh fruit, maple syrup, and optional bacon for a complete breakfast experience.
