This easy homemade Peppermint Bark combines rich dark chocolate and creamy white chocolate infused with peppermint extract and topped with crushed candy canes, making it a festive and delicious holiday treat. Ready in under an hour with just four simple ingredients, it’s perfect for sharing or gifting during the Christmas season.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 16 servings

Ingredients

Dark Chocolate Layer

  • 12 ounces dark chocolate or semisweet chocolate, chopped

White Chocolate Layer

  • 16 ounces white chocolate, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 6-7 candy canes, crushed

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  2. Melt Dark Chocolate: Place the chopped dark or semisweet chocolate in a medium microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at 50% power for 1 minute, then stir. Continue microwaving in 20-second increments, stirring between each, until fully melted and smooth.
  3. Spread Dark Chocolate: Pour the melted dark chocolate onto the parchment-lined baking sheet and spread it into a large rectangle. Let it begin to set slightly while preparing the white chocolate.
  4. Melt White Chocolate: Using the same method, melt the white chocolate in the microwave at 50% power for 1 minute. Stir and continue microwaving in 20-second bursts, stirring each time until melted.
  5. Add Peppermint and Candy Cane: Stir the peppermint extract and half of the crushed candy canes into the melted white chocolate.
  6. Layer White Chocolate: Drizzle the white chocolate over the partially set dark chocolate layer. Use a spatula or spoon to gently spread or swirl it for a marbled effect. Immediately sprinkle the remaining crushed candy canes on top.
  7. Set and Serve: Let the peppermint bark set at room temperature for 30 to 90 minutes until hardened. Cut into pieces with a sharp knife or break apart by hand using gloves or placing the bark in a sealed plastic bag to avoid fingerprints.
  8. Storage: Store peppermint bark at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

  • Use quality chocolate for the best flavor and texture.
  • Be careful not to overheat the chocolate in the microwave to avoid burning.
  • The peppermint bark can also be chilled in the refrigerator to speed up the setting process.
  • For a marbled look, swirl the white chocolate gently into the dark chocolate before it sets.
  • Crushed candy canes can be adjusted for more or less crunch and peppermint flavor.
