Ingredients
Matcha Mixture
- 2 teaspoons matcha powder
- 1 to 2 tablespoons hot water
- 1 cup warm water
Serving
- Ice, as needed
- Milk of choice (almond milk recommended), enough to fill glasses 3/4 full
- Optional: simple syrup to taste
Instructions
- Prepare Matcha Paste: In a measuring cup or bowl, add the matcha powder and pour in 1 to 2 tablespoons of hot water. Whisk vigorously until the matcha powder fully dissolves into the water, forming a smooth paste without lumps.
- Dilute and Chill: Pour the remaining 1 cup of warm water into the matcha paste and mix thoroughly. Transfer the mixture into the refrigerator or freezer and chill for about 15 minutes until the matcha is cool and slightly thickened.
- Assemble the Latte: Fill two glasses with ice and add your milk of choice until the glass is about 3/4 full. If desired, stir in simple syrup to adjust sweetness. Finally, pour the chilled matcha mixture over the milk and ice, and stir gently to combine.
Notes
- Use high-quality ceremonial grade matcha for the best flavor and vibrant green color.
- Adjust the sweetness by adding simple syrup, honey, or your preferred sweetener.
- Almond milk is suggested for a dairy-free option, but any milk or milk alternative can be used.
- To make it creamier, use oat milk or add a splash of vanilla extract.
- Do not skip chilling the matcha mixture, as this enhances the refreshing nature of the latte.
- Whisking with a bamboo whisk (chasen) can create a smoother matcha paste, but a small electric whisk works as well.
