Ingredients
Tofu
- 1 block (about 14 oz / 400 grams) extra firm tofu
Seasonings
- 4 tablespoons nutritional yeast
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- ½ teaspoon fine sea salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
Instructions
- Drain the tofu: Open the package of tofu and drain off any excess water. Do not press or dry it to maintain some moisture for better texture.
- Tear the tofu: Using your hands, tear the tofu into irregular bite-sized chunks and place them in a mixing bowl.
- Season the tofu: Add the nutritional yeast, cornstarch, sea salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder to the bowl. Toss everything well to evenly coat the tofu pieces with the seasoning mixture.
- Cook the tofu: Choose your cooking method. For air frying, brush a little oil on the bottom of the air fryer basket, add the tofu in a single layer, and cook at 400°F (200°C) for 15 to 20 minutes, tossing halfway through until the tofu is super crunchy and golden. For baking, spread the tofu out on a lined baking tray and bake at 425°F (218°C) for 30 to 35 minutes or until golden and crispy, turning once halfway through.
Notes
- Do not press the tofu dry before seasoning to retain moisture for better texture.
- For extra crispiness, toss tofu halfway through cooking.
- Adjust seasoning to taste as nutritional yeast provides a cheesy flavor.
