Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 2 teaspoons chili powder (or to taste; use less if sensitive to spice or your chili powder is very spicy)
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- ¼ teaspoon onion powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ⅛ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ cup tomato sauce
- ½ cup water
- 8 taco-size corn or flour tortillas
Toppings (optional)
- Shredded cheese
- Shredded lettuce
- Chopped tomatoes
- Sour cream
- Avocado
- Guacamole
- Cilantro
- Chopped red onion
Instructions
- Brown the Meat: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon or spatula, until fully browned and no longer pink. Drain any excess grease from the skillet, especially if using fattier beef.
- Add Spices and Sauce: Reduce heat to medium. Add chili powder, ground cumin, garlic powder, dried oregano, onion powder, salt, black pepper, tomato sauce, and water to the skillet. Stir everything to combine thoroughly.
- Simmer: Cook the mixture, stirring frequently, for about 5 minutes or until the taco meat is fully cooked through, thickened, and has reached your desired texture.
- Warm Tortillas: While the meat simmers, warm the tortillas using a skillet, microwave, or oven as preferred.
- Assemble Tacos: Spoon the seasoned meat mixture into each tortilla and add your chosen toppings such as shredded cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, avocado, guacamole, cilantro, and chopped red onion.
- Serve: Serve immediately while warm and enjoy your fresh, flavorful tacos.
Notes
- You can substitute ground turkey for beef for a leaner option.
- Adjust chili powder quantity to suit your spice preference.
- For extra flavor, let the meat mixture simmer a few minutes longer.
- Use corn tortillas for a gluten-free taco option.
- Store leftover meat in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
