Ingredients
Base Ingredients
- 10.5 ounce condensed cream of chicken soup
- 10.5 ounce condensed cream of celery soup
- 1 cup whole milk
- ¾ cup sour cream
- 1 tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp garlic powder
Protein and Vegetables
- 10 oz light tuna in water, drained (two 5 oz cans)
- 1 cup frozen peas
Main Carb
- 5 cups cooked egg noodles
Topping
- 1 cup crushed Ritz crackers
- ¼ cup butter (melted)
Instructions
- Prepare the Oven and Sauce: Preheat the oven to 350˚F. In a large mixing bowl, combine the condensed cream of chicken soup, condensed cream of celery soup, whole milk, sour cream, black pepper, and garlic powder. Stir well until the mixture is smooth and evenly blended.
- Add Tuna and Peas: Carefully fold in the drained tuna and frozen peas into the sauce mixture, ensuring the tuna is broken up slightly but still chunky, and peas are evenly distributed.
- Combine with Noodles and Assemble: Add the cooked egg noodles to the mixture and stir thoroughly until all noodles are well coated with the creamy sauce. Transfer this mixture to a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
- Prepare the Topping: In a small bowl, mix together the crushed Ritz crackers and melted butter until the crackers are fully coated and crumbly. Evenly sprinkle this buttered cracker topping over the noodle mixture in the baking dish.
- Bake the Casserole: Place the assembled casserole in the preheated oven and bake at 350˚F for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly around the edges and the cracker topping is golden brown and crisp. Let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For a lighter version, use low-fat milk and reduced-fat sour cream.
- Fresh or canned peas can be used if frozen peas aren’t available.
- To add extra flavor, mix in a cup of shredded cheddar cheese before baking.
- Leftover casserole can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for longer storage.
- Ensure noodles are al dente when cooked to prevent them from becoming mushy after baking.
