Crispy and flavorful baked chicken wings coated with a seasoned flour mixture and baked to perfection in the oven. This easy recipe uses simple ingredients like butter, paprika, and garlic powder to create a delicious snack or appetizer perfect for any occasion.

  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

For the Wings

  • 1½ lbs. chicken wingettes (10-12), thawed if frozen

For the Coating

  • ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp ground paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper

Other

  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter (⅜ stick)
  • Nonstick cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven and prepare baking sheet: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray it with nonstick cooking spray. Dot the foil with small pieces of unsalted butter evenly spaced out to help crisp the wings and add flavor.
  2. Mix the seasoning flour: In a medium bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, ground paprika, garlic powder, kosher salt, and ground black pepper. Mix well so the seasoning is evenly distributed throughout the flour.
  3. Dry the wings: Use paper towels to pat the chicken wingettes dry. Removing as much surface moisture as possible will help the flour mixture adhere better and ensure crispier wings after baking.
  4. Coat the wings: Toss the dried wings thoroughly in the seasoned flour mixture, making sure each wing is fully coated on all sides. Place the coated wings evenly spaced on the prepared baking sheet over the butter dots.
  5. Bake the wings: Bake the wings in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. After this initial bake, flip each wing over carefully to ensure even cooking and crispiness on both sides.
  6. Finish baking: Return the wings to the oven and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until they are golden brown, crispy, and fully cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F / 74°C).
  7. Serve: Remove the wings from the oven and serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce. Optionally, sprinkle freshly chopped parsley on top for added color and freshness.

Notes

  • Removing excess moisture from wings is crucial for a crispy coating.
  • Butter dots on the baking sheet add flavor and promote browning, but melting the butter beforehand is optional.
  • You can adjust paprika or add cayenne pepper to increase spiciness if desired.
  • Ensure wings are cooked to an internal temperature of 165°F for safety.
  • For extra crispiness, broil the wings for 1-2 minutes at the end but watch closely to avoid burning.
