Ingredients
Sauce Ingredients
- ⅓ cup soy sauce (regular, not reduced sodium)
- ¼ cup honey
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1½ tbsp toasted sesame oil
- 1 tbsp sriracha
- 2 tsp fresh grated ginger
- 2 tsp cornstarch
Main Ingredients
- 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil (divided)
- ½ lb fresh green beans, cut into 1.5-2 inch pieces
- 1.5 lb ground beef (90% lean)
- ½ tsp kosher salt
- 1 tbsp garlic, minced
- 1 tsp sesame seeds
To Serve
- Cooked white rice
- Sliced green onions (optional)
- Sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare Rice: If you plan to serve this stir fry with rice, start cooking the rice according to package instructions to have it ready by the time the stir fry is done.
- Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, toasted sesame oil, sriracha, grated ginger, and cornstarch until smooth. Set the sauce aside while you prepare the rest of the dish.
- Cook Green Beans: Heat a large 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Add ½ tablespoon of toasted sesame oil, then add the green beans. Stir occasionally and cook for 5-8 minutes until the beans are tender-crisp and slightly browned. Remove the green beans from the skillet and set aside on a plate.
- Cook Ground Beef: Reduce the stove heat to medium. Add the remaining ½ tablespoon sesame oil to the skillet. Once hot, add the ground beef and sprinkle with kosher salt. Break the meat into small pieces with a spatula and cook for 5-6 minutes until fully cooked and no pink remains.
- Drain Excess Grease and Sauté Aromatics: If the beef released a lot of grease, use paper towels to carefully soak up and discard the excess. Add the minced garlic and sesame seeds to the skillet, cooking for about 1 minute while stirring frequently to prevent burning. This step builds flavor just before adding the sauce.
- Combine and Thicken Sauce: Return the cooked green beans to the skillet with the beef. Pour the prepared sauce over the mixture. Cook over medium heat, stirring often, for 1-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the ingredients evenly.
- Serve: Serve the beef and green bean stir fry hot over cooked white rice. Garnish with sliced green onions and extra sesame seeds if desired for added freshness and texture.
Notes
- For a spicier dish, increase the amount of sriracha or add red pepper flakes.
- Use a meat masher or spatula to break up ground beef evenly for better texture.
- Make sure to drain excess grease after cooking ground beef to keep the dish from being too oily.
- Fresh green beans work best for the best texture; blanching is optional if you prefer softer beans.
- Optional garnishes like green onions and extra sesame seeds add nice color and flavor contrast.
- If preferred, substitute ground turkey or chicken as a leaner protein option.
