Ingredients
For the Burger Patties
- 1 pound lean ground beef (80/20 works well)
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
For the Bruschetta Topping
- 3 Roma tomatoes (diced)
- 2 tablespoons finely diced red onion or shallot
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- ¼ cup chopped basil
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
For Assembly
- 4 hamburger buns
- 8 ounces fresh mozzarella (sliced)
- Fresh basil leaves
- Balsamic glaze (optional)
Instructions
- Form the Patties: Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and gently form each into a patty, being careful not to overwork the meat to keep them juicy.
- Season the Patties: Sprinkle both sides of each patty with kosher salt, black pepper, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder to infuse them with savory Italian flavors.
- Preheat Grill: Heat your grill to medium-high, which ensures a good sear and even cooking for the burgers.
- Grill the Burgers: Place the patties on the preheated grill and cook for about 4 to 5 minutes per side, or until they reach your preferred level of doneness.
- Prepare the Bruschetta Topping: While the burgers are grilling, mix diced Roma tomatoes, finely diced red onion or shallot, minced garlic, chopped basil, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and kosher salt in a bowl. Toss gently to combine all fresh flavors.
- Add Mozzarella: During the final minute of grilling, place slices of fresh mozzarella on top of each patty to melt slightly, adding creamy texture and flavor.
- Assemble the Burgers: Place each cooked burger patty on the bottom half of a hamburger bun. Top generously with the bruschetta mixture, add fresh basil leaves, and drizzle with balsamic glaze if desired. Finish with the top bun and serve immediately.
Notes
- For juicier burgers, avoid pressing down on the patties while grilling.
- You can substitute fresh mozzarella with provolone or another mild cheese if preferred.
- Use a grill pan or stovetop skillet if an outdoor grill isn’t available.
- Balsamic glaze adds a sweet tangy drizzle, but it’s optional if you prefer a more traditional bruschetta flavor.
- Let the burgers rest a few minutes after grilling to help retain their juices before slicing or serving.
