These Chicken Parm Burgers offer a delicious twist on classic chicken parmesan by turning it into a juicy, flavorful burger. The ground chicken patties are seasoned with Italian herbs and spices, cooked to perfection in a skillet, then topped with warm marinara sauce and melted fresh mozzarella. Served on toasted buns with optional fresh basil or arugula, these burgers make a quick and satisfying meal.

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Chicken Patties

  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • ¼ cup marinara sauce
  • ⅓ cup plain breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup Parmesan cheese, finely grated
  • 1½ teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon cracked black pepper

Additional Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ¾ cup marinara sauce (divided, ¼ cup in patties plus ½ cup for warming)
  • 4 slices fresh mozzarella cheese
  • 4 burger buns or ciabatta rolls, toasted
  • Fresh basil or arugula, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the patties: In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, ¼ cup marinara sauce, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and cracked black pepper. Mix gently until just combined without overmixing to keep the patties tender.
  2. Shape the patties: Divide the mixture evenly into four portions and form each into a patty shape to fit your buns.
  3. Cook the burgers: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the chicken patties for 4 to 5 minutes on each side, or until their internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and they are cooked through.
  4. Warm the marinara sauce: While the patties are cooking, heat the remaining ½ cup marinara sauce in a small saucepan over low heat until warm.
  5. Add cheese and sauce: Once the burgers are cooked, spoon warm marinara sauce over each patty. Place a slice of fresh mozzarella on top of each. Cover the skillet with a lid for a few minutes to melt the cheese, or briefly place the patties under a broiler to melt the cheese evenly.
  6. Assemble and serve: Place the cooked patties on toasted burger buns or ciabatta rolls. Add extra marinara sauce and garnish with fresh basil or arugula if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the ground chicken mixture to avoid tough burgers.
  • Ensure the chicken patties reach an internal temperature of 165°F for safe consumption.
  • You can substitute fresh mozzarella with shredded mozzarella if preferred, just adjust melting time accordingly.
  • To save time, prepare the marinara sauce ahead or use store-bought sauce.
  • For extra crispiness, toast the buns lightly before assembling.
