Ingredients
Ingredients
- 1 Pound Fresh Strawberries
- 1 Dash Vinegar (for rinsing)
Instructions
- Rinse Strawberries: Place your fresh strawberries in a large bowl filled with fresh water and add a dash of vinegar to help clean them thoroughly. Swish gently and then drain.
- Remove Green Tops: Pat the strawberries dry between two towels. Remove the green tops (also known as the hull or calyx) from each strawberry carefully.
- Cut Strawberries: Decide how you want to cut your strawberries — halves, quarters, or slices. Sliced strawberries dry faster but avoid making the slices too thin to prevent sticking to the dehydrator tray.
- Arrange on Dehydrator Tray: Spread the prepared strawberries evenly on the dehydrator trays, leaving some space between pieces to allow good air circulation.
- Set Temperature and Start: Stack the trays and set your dehydrator temperature to 135°F (57°C) for optimal drying.
- Dry the Strawberries: Allow the strawberries to dry for 4 to 6 hours, depending on their size and thickness. Check for your desired texture and dryness.
- Store or Enjoy: Once dried to your liking, remove the strawberries from the dehydrator and store them in airtight containers or vacuum bags. They can also be enjoyed immediately as a healthy snack.
Notes
- The drying time varies depending on the size and thickness of strawberry slices; thinner slices dry faster but may stick to trays.
- Using a dash of vinegar in the rinsing water helps remove impurities and bacteria.
- Store dried strawberries in airtight containers to maintain freshness and prevent moisture absorption.
- Dehydrated strawberries can be used as snacks, in baking, or as toppings for cereals and salads.
