These delicious homemade brownies are rich, fudgy, and easy to make with a simple combination of butter, chocolate, sugar, eggs, and cocoa powder. Enhanced with a silky chocolate ganache drizzle and festive Valentine’s sprinkles, they are perfect for any celebration or a sweet treat.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
  • Yield: 24 brownies

Ingredients

For the Brownies

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate morsels
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder

For the Garnish

  • 5 ounces Ghirardelli Dark or Milk Chocolate Melting Wafers (about half of a package)
  • Additional melting wafers in red, pink, or white (optional)
  • Valentine’s Sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 13×9-inch baking dish with parchment paper and set aside to make removing the brownies easier.
  2. Melt Butter and Chocolate: In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Remove from heat, then add the semi-sweet chocolate morsels and granulated sugar. Stir continuously until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth.
  3. Add Eggs and Vanilla: Add the eggs one at a time, stirring thoroughly after each addition to ensure they are fully incorporated. Stir in the vanilla extract to add flavor depth.
  4. Combine Dry Ingredients: Add the unsweetened cocoa powder, all-purpose flour, kosher salt, and baking powder to the wet mixture. Using large stirring motions, gently fold until just combined and no dry ingredients are visible. Avoid over-mixing to keep the brownies tender.
  5. Bake the Brownies: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish. Bake in the preheated oven for 22 to 24 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely in the pan.
  6. Cut and Prepare Garnish: Once fully cooled, cut the brownies into 24 squares. Melt the chocolate melting wafers according to the package instructions.
  7. Decorate: Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the brownies as desired. Immediately sprinkle with Valentine’s sprinkles and the optional additional colored melting wafers before the chocolate hardens.
  8. Set Chocolate: Transfer the decorated brownies onto fresh parchment paper to allow the chocolate drizzle to harden completely before serving.

Notes

  • Do not over-mix the batter to avoid tough brownies. Stir only until ingredients are just combined.
  • Ensure brownies are completely cooled before decorating to prevent melted chocolate from sliding off.
  • Using parchment paper in the baking dish makes removal and cutting easier.
  • For a richer chocolate flavor, use high-quality cocoa powder and chocolate morsels.
  • Customize the garnish colors and sprinkles to suit different occasions.
