Ingredients
Pickles and Marinade
- 2 cups (320g) sliced pickles
- 1 cup (240g) buttermilk (mixed with a dash of Franks hot seasoning, optional)
Breading
- 1 cup (125g) breadcrumbs
- ¼ cup (23g) grated parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- ⅓ teaspoon smoked paprika
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer: Set your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) and allow it to preheat while you prepare the pickles.
- Pat pickles dry: Use paper towels to thoroughly dry the sliced pickles to ensure the coating sticks properly and the pickles crisp up nicely.
- Prepare seasoned buttermilk: In a bowl, combine the buttermilk with a dash of Franks hot seasoning if desired for added flavor.
- Make breadcrumb mixture: In another bowl, mix together breadcrumbs, grated parmesan, oregano, smoked paprika, and garlic powder to create a flavorful coating.
- Coat the pickles: Quickly dip each pickle slice into the buttermilk mixture, letting excess drip off, then dredge both sides in the seasoned breadcrumb mixture. Place coated pickles into the air fryer basket.
- Air fry the first batch: Insert the basket and air fry the pickles for 8-10 minutes. About 3 minutes before finishing, lightly spray the pickles with cooking spray to help the breadcrumbs crisp and turn golden brown.
- Continue breading and frying: Repeat the breading process for remaining pickles and air fry them in batches until all are cooked and crispy.
Notes
- Make sure to pat the pickles dry to prevent soggy coating.
- Spraying with oil halfway through cooking helps achieve a golden, crispy texture.
- You can adjust seasoning in the breadcrumb mix to taste, adding cayenne or chili powder for extra heat.
- Serve immediately for best crunchiness.
- Works well with dill or spicy pickles according to preference.
