Ingredients
For the Protein Pizza Dough
- 1 cup gluten-free all-purpose flour (or regular all-purpose flour)
- 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
For the Topping
- ⅔ cup pizza sauce (or more as needed)
- ¾ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 400 degrees F and place one of the racks in the center. Lightly grease a pizza pan or baking sheet with olive oil spray or non-stick cooking spray and set aside.
- Make self-rising flour mix: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the gluten-free flour, baking powder, kosher salt, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Mix well to evenly distribute all dry ingredients.
- Form the dough: Add the Greek yogurt to the dry ingredients and stir using a fork or rubber spatula until combined. Then, use your hands to knead the mixture into a smooth dough ball, which should take approximately 2 to 3 minutes. If the dough feels sticky, sprinkle a little extra flour on your hands and on the dough.
- Shape the pizza crust: Press the dough onto the prepared pizza pan, spreading it into a round pizza shape by pressing from the center outwards to the edges, creating an even thickness.
- Pre-bake the crust: Bake the crust in the preheated oven for 5 minutes. This step helps set the dough before adding toppings.
- Add toppings: Remove the crust from the oven carefully. Spread ⅔ cup of pizza sauce evenly over the crust, leaving about ¾ inch of edge bare for the crust. Then sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly on top.
- Bake the pizza: Return the pizza to the oven and bake for an additional 15 to 17 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the crust is golden and cooked through.
- Cool and serve: Allow the pizza to cool for about 5 minutes before slicing. Slice into desired portions and serve warm.
Notes
- You can use regular all-purpose flour instead of gluten-free if preferred; however, this will change the gluten content.
- For a crispier crust, you can pre-bake the dough a minute or two longer before adding toppings.
- Adjust pizza sauce quantity to your taste to avoid sogginess.
- This dough also works well with other toppings – customize with your favorite veggies or proteins.
- Use non-dairy yogurt and vegan cheese to make this recipe vegan, though it will affect protein content.
