Ingredients
Roasted Garlic
- 5 cloves roasted garlic, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon olive oil (for roasting)
Spinach
- 6 ounces baby spinach (or thawed frozen spinach)
- 1 teaspoon olive oil (for sautéing)
Burger Mixture
- 1 1/2 pounds extra-lean ground chicken
- 4 ounces crumbled feta cheese
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Roast Garlic: Preheat the oven to 375°F. Place garlic cloves in a baking dish and drizzle with 1 teaspoon of olive oil. Roast for 10-20 minutes until fragrant and soft.
- Sauté Spinach: Heat 1 teaspoon of olive oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the spinach and toss frequently for 4-5 minutes until wilted. Transfer the spinach to a colander and squeeze out excess water, then let it cool to room temperature.
- Prepare Ingredients: Roughly chop the roasted garlic and wilted spinach to ensure easy mixing. In a large mixing bowl, combine the chopped garlic and spinach with the ground chicken, crumbled feta, Dijon mustard, hot sauce, salt, and black pepper.
- Form Patties: Gently but thoroughly mix all ingredients until evenly combined. Shape the mixture into 6 burger patties, each approximately ¾ inch thick.
- Preheat Grill: Heat the grill to medium-high. Soak a wadded paper towel with olive oil and use tongs to oil the grill grates generously to prevent sticking.
- Grill Burgers: Place the patties on the grill and cook undisturbed for 5-6 minutes. Flip and cook for another 5-6 minutes until the burgers release easily from the grill and reach an internal temperature of 165°F.
- Serve: Transfer the cooked burgers to a clean plate. Serve on buns, in salads, or wrapped in lettuce with your favorite garnishes and toppings.
Notes
- You can substitute frozen spinach but be sure to thaw and squeeze out excess water before using.
- Roasting garlic mellows its flavor and adds sweetness to the burgers.
- Use a meat thermometer to ensure burgers reach a safe internal temperature of 165°F.
- These burgers can be served on buns, lettuce wraps, or alongside a fresh salad for a low-carb option.
- If you do not have a grill, cooking the patties in a skillet on the stovetop with a little oil can be an alternative.
