A refreshing and delightful Homemade Boba Milk Tea recipe that combines chewy black tapioca pearls with rich black tea and creamy milk, sweetened to perfect taste. Ideal for a cool treat or a fun beverage to share with friends.

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Tea

  • 4 black tea bags
  • Water (as called for on boba packaging and for brewing tea)

Boba Pearls

  • 1 cup black tapioca pearls
  • 1/4 cup simple syrup (for soaking boba)

Milk Tea

  • 3 cups milk (any type)
  • 1/4 cup simple syrup (divided, 3 tablespoons for milk tea)
  • Ice

Instructions

  1. Prepare Black Tea: Brew the black tea using 4 tea bags with water according to package directions. For best flavor, allow the tea to cool completely in the refrigerator before use. Set aside until chilled.
  2. Cook Boba Pearls: Prepare the black tapioca pearls following package instructions, usually boiling until they are soft and chewy. Once cooked, drain and place them into a small bowl. Add 1/4 cup simple syrup to the boba and stir well to coat and sweeten. Set aside to soak.
  3. Assemble Glasses: Divide the prepared boba evenly among 4 glasses. Add a layer of ice on top of the boba pearls to keep the drink chilled and refreshing.
  4. Add Milk Tea: Pour 3/4 cup of cooled black tea and 3/4 cup milk into each glass over the ice and boba. Add about 1 tablespoon of simple syrup to each glass or adjust to taste. Stir the mixture to combine all flavors thoroughly.
  5. Serve: Insert a wide boba straw into each glass and serve immediately for the best texture and flavor experience.

Notes

  • Using refrigerated tea helps prevent the ice from diluting the drink too quickly.
  • You can adjust sweetness by varying the amount of simple syrup added at different stages.
  • Feel free to use any type of milk, including dairy-free alternatives like almond or oat milk.
  • Freshly cooked boba is best consumed within a few hours for optimal texture.
  • To make simple syrup, dissolve equal parts sugar and water by heating until sugar is fully dissolved, then cool before use.
