A refreshing and health-boosting homemade ginger shot recipe that combines the spicy kick of fresh ginger with bright lemon juice and optional turmeric and elderberries for added antioxidants. These quick-to-make shots can help invigorate your day and support your immune system.

  • Total Time: 8 minutes
  • Yield: 5 servings (about 2 ounces per serving)

Ingredients

Basic Ginger Shot Ingredients

  • 3 ounces fresh ginger, washed
  • Juice of 2 lemons
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional)
  • 1 1/2 cups water (divided)

Elderberry Ginger Shot Variation

  • 1/4 cup dried elderberries
  • 3 ounces fresh ginger, washed
  • Juice of 2 lemons
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional)
  • 1 1/2 cups water (divided into 1 cup for elderberry tea and 1/2 cup for blending)
  • 1 ounce turmeric, washed (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make Elderberry Tea (if using elderberries): Place 1/4 cup dried elderberries and 1 cup water in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Strain the tea through a fine mesh sieve, discarding solids.
  2. Prepare Ingredients for Blending: For basic ginger shots, measure out 1 1/2 cups water. For elderberry shots, use the prepared elderberry tea plus an additional 1/2 cup water. Add the ginger, lemon juice, pinch of salt, honey or maple syrup, and turmeric (if using) to the high-speed blender.
  3. Blend the Shot Mixture: Blend all ingredients on high speed for 1 minute until smooth and fully combined, extracting all the beneficial juices from the ginger and other components.
  4. Strain and Store: Pour the blended mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a mason jar or small juice glasses to remove fibrous solids. Store in the refrigerator and consume within 7 days for optimum freshness and potency.

Notes

  • Adjust sweetness with honey or maple syrup according to taste or dietary preference.
  • The ginger shots can be taken daily for an immune boost or as needed for digestion support.
  • Use organic and fresh ingredients for the best flavor and health benefits.
  • Straining is essential for a smooth shot; however, you can skip this step if you prefer a fiber-rich drink.
  • These shots are potent; start with small amounts if you’re sensitive to ginger.
