This Homemade Orange Glazed Salmon recipe features tender salmon fillets cooked to perfection in a buttery skillet and topped with a sweet and tangy orange glaze made from fresh orange juice, honey, soy sauce, and garlic. It’s a quick and flavorful dish perfect for a healthy weeknight dinner.

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Salmon and Cooking

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 pound salmon fillets
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste

Orange Glaze

  • 1/2 cup orange juice (fresh squeezed from approximately 1 orange)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (whisked with 1 teaspoon water, optional for a thicker glaze)

Instructions

  1. Heat the skillet: Heat the butter or olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat to prepare for cooking the salmon.
  2. Cook the salmon: Season the salmon fillets with salt and pepper. Place them skin side up in the hot skillet. Cook for 3-5 minutes until golden brown on top, then flip carefully and cook an additional 3-4 minutes or until the salmon reaches an internal temperature of 145°F. This ensures the fish is cooked safely and remains moist.
  3. Keep salmon warm: Remove the cooked salmon from the skillet and place it on a plate. Tent loosely with foil to keep warm while you make the glaze.
  4. Prepare the glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the orange juice, honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, and cornstarch slurry if using. This mixture will become your flavorful orange glaze.
  5. Cook the glaze: Return the skillet to medium heat and pour in the glaze mixture. Cook, stirring frequently, until the sauce becomes hot and thickens, which should take about 30-60 seconds if cornstarch is used.
  6. Glaze the salmon: Add the salmon back into the skillet and spoon the orange glaze over the fillets. Warm the salmon gently in the sauce to coat it well. Optionally, garnish with additional fresh orange slices before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the salmon is fresh and thick for best results.
  • If you prefer a thicker glaze, do not skip the cornstarch slurry.
  • You can substitute butter with olive oil for a lighter version.
  • Check salmon’s internal temperature with a meat thermometer to avoid overcooking.
  • Serve with steamed vegetables or rice for a complete meal.
