  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 large yellow onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lb lean ground beef or ground turkey

Seasonings and Sauces

  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 (24 oz) jar marinara sauce
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes

Pasta and Liquids

  • 1 lb pot-size spaghetti noodles, or regular spaghetti broken in half
  • 12 oz low-sodium chicken broth

Optional Garnish

  • Grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Sauté Aromatics: Set the Instant Pot to sauté mode. Add olive oil to the inner pot, followed by diced onion. Cook until the onion becomes translucent. Add minced garlic, garlic salt, and Italian seasoning and cook for 30 seconds more to release the aromas.
  2. Brown the Meat: Add the ground beef (or turkey) to the pot. Cook while breaking it up with a wooden spoon until fully browned. Turn off sauté mode. Drain excess grease if needed, leaving a tablespoon or two for flavor.
  3. Deglaze the Pot: Pour a small splash of chicken broth into the pot. Scrape the bottom with a wooden spoon to remove any browned bits that may cause burning during pressure cooking.
  4. Add Pasta and Liquids: Lay the spaghetti noodles over the meat mixture, adding in small batches and crisscrossing to fit evenly. Pour the remaining chicken broth around the noodles, followed by the marinara sauce and diced tomatoes on top. Press noodles down gently so all are submerged. Do not stir.
  5. Pressure Cook: Lock the Instant Pot lid and set the steam release to sealing. Select pressure cook (manual) and set for 8 minutes. Wait for the pot to reach pressure and complete cooking.
  6. Release Pressure: Once cooking is done, turn off the Instant Pot. Perform a quick release by turning the steam release valve to venting to release steam immediately.
  7. Finish and Serve: Open the lid carefully and stir the spaghetti to combine everything thoroughly. Let it rest for 5 minutes to allow the noodles to absorb liquid. Serve hot with grated Parmesan cheese if desired.

Notes

  • Breaking spaghetti noodles in half helps them fit better in the Instant Pot and cook evenly.
  • Do not stir after adding the liquids before pressure cooking to avoid triggering the burn warning.
  • Using low-sodium broth helps control the salt level, but you can adjust seasoning after cooking.
  • Letting the spaghetti rest after cooking improves the texture as the noodles absorb remaining sauce.
  • Ground turkey is a leaner alternative to beef but may yield slightly less rich flavor.
