Ingredients
Fruits
- 5 medium oranges
Vegetables
- 1 medium red onion
Condiments & Seasonings
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon fresh cracked black pepper
- ½ teaspoon sea salt (to taste)
Instructions
- Prepare the Oranges: Peel the oranges carefully using a knife to remove all skin and pith. Then thinly slice the oranges and arrange them evenly on a serving plate or tray.
- Slice the Onion: Peel the red onion and slice it thinly. Scatter the onion slices evenly over the arranged orange slices on the plate.
- Dress the Salad: Drizzle the olive oil over the orange and onion slices, then sprinkle with fresh cracked black pepper and sea salt to taste. Toss gently if desired.
- Rest the Salad (Optional): For best flavor, cover the salad and let it rest in the refrigerator for 2-3 hours to allow the onions to mellow. You can also serve immediately if short on time.
- Storage: Store any leftovers in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to three days, but the salad is freshest when eaten the same day it’s made.
Notes
- Removing all the pith from the oranges ensures the salad isn’t bitter.
- Allowing the salad to rest enhances the flavor as the onions soften and sweetness of the oranges infuses the dish.
- This salad pairs well with grilled meats or as a standalone light dish on warm days.
- Adjust salt and pepper according to your taste preference.
- Use fresh cracked black pepper for the best flavor impact.
