  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Homemade Steak Seasoning

  • 1 tbsp kosher salt
  • 1 tbsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano

Cheesesteak Skillet

  • 1 lb lean ground beef (93% lean)
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 small yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 8 oz cremini mushrooms, sliced
  • 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1.5 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2- tsp homemade steak seasoning (from above)

High-Protein Cheese Sauce

  • 3/4 cup cottage cheese (blended until smooth)
  • 1/2 cup provolone cheese
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Pinch of salt and black pepper

Instructions

  1. Cook the Ground Beef: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and break it apart with a spatula. Sprinkle 1 to 1½ teaspoons of the homemade steak seasoning over the beef. Let it cook undisturbed for 1–2 minutes to develop a sear, then continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned and fully cooked, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  2. Sauté Vegetables: Add the sliced cremini mushrooms, green and red bell peppers, and yellow onion directly into the skillet with the cooked beef. Cook for 6 to 8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mushrooms release their moisture and start to brown, and the vegetables become soft and slightly caramelized.
  3. Season and Add Garlic: Sprinkle the remaining ½ to 1 teaspoon of steak seasoning over the skillet contents and stir well. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant, stirring constantly to prevent burning.
  4. Add Worcestershire Sauce: Pour in 1.5 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce and mix everything thoroughly. Allow the mixture to cook together for 1 to 2 minutes to blend the flavors.
  5. Prepare the Cheese Sauce: While the skillet mixture cooks, blend the cottage cheese until completely smooth. Transfer to a small saucepan along with the provolone cheese, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, and a pinch of salt and black pepper. Heat over low heat, stirring constantly until the cheese is melted and the sauce becomes creamy and uniform.
  6. Combine and Serve: Drizzle the smooth cheese sauce over the skillet mixture. Mix everything together well to evenly coat the beef and vegetables. Serve immediately and enjoy your Philly Cheesesteak Skillet with a rich, protein-packed cheese sauce.

Notes

  • You can adjust the amount of homemade steak seasoning according to your taste preference.
  • For a thicker cheese sauce, allow it to simmer slightly longer, stirring continuously.
  • Use lean ground beef to reduce fat content, but feel free to substitute with ground turkey for a leaner option.
  • If you prefer, swap provolone with mozzarella or cheddar cheese.
  • This recipe pairs well with a side of crusty bread or a fresh green salad.
