Baked to a golden brown, these biscuits capture the irresistible taste of the famous restaurant classic right in your own kitchen.

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 12 biscuits

Ingredients

Biscuit Dough

  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup cold buttermilk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons Old Bay seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese

Topping

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Baking Surface: Adjust the oven rack to the middle and preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Line a large sheet pan with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat, or generously butter a large oven-safe cast-iron pan.
  2. Melt Butter and Mix with Buttermilk: Melt 6 tablespoons of unsalted butter in the microwave, then allow it to cool for 3–4 minutes. Pour 1 cup cold buttermilk (straight from the fridge) into the melted butter and stir gently with a spoon until small clumps form.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon baking powder, 1 tablespoon sugar, 1 teaspoon salt, 2 teaspoons Old Bay seasoning, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon dried parsley, and 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper if using.
  4. Make the Dough: Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients. Scrape all the butter-and-buttermilk mixture into the well, then gently mix with a wooden spoon just until combined. Avoid overmixing to keep biscuits tender. Fold in 1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese.
  5. Shape the Biscuits: Lightly spray a 1/4 cup measuring cup. Scoop dough into the cup and drop onto the prepared pan, spacing about 1-1/2 inches apart. Repeat until all dough is portioned. Chill the biscuit dough on the pan in the fridge for 10 minutes to firm up.
  6. Bake the Biscuits: Bake in the preheated oven for 12–15 minutes or until biscuits are lightly golden on top and bottom and sound hollow when tapped.
  7. Prepare the Topping: While biscuits are baking, mix together 3 tablespoons melted butter, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley.
  8. Brush and Serve: Once baked, let biscuits cool on the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Brush them generously with the garlic butter mixture while still warm. Serve immediately for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Use cold buttermilk straight from the fridge to help the butter clump, which creates a tender biscuit texture.
  • Do not overmix the dough to keep the biscuits light and fluffy.
  • The topping brush-on butter adds a garlic-herb flavor and beautiful shine, enhancing the biscuits’ iconic taste.
  • For best results, enjoy the biscuits fresh and warm on the day of baking.
