Ingredients
Crust
- 1 1/2 cups pretzels, crushed
- 1 stick butter (unsalted or salted), melted
- 1/3 cup light brown sugar
- ½ tsp salt (omit if using salted butter)
Filling
- 2 (8 ounce) bricks cream cheese, full fat and room temperature
- 100 grams granulated sugar (about 1/2 cup)
- 1/3 cup heavy whipping cream
- ½ tbsp pure vanilla extract
Topping
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
- 1 cup fresh blueberries
Instructions
- Prepare the crust: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the crushed pretzels, melted butter, light brown sugar, and salt (if using unsalted butter). Stir until the mixture is lightly damp but not wet or dry.
- Form the crust: Transfer this pretzel crumb mixture to your baking dish and press down evenly to form a firm base layer. Set aside while preparing the filling.
- Make the cream cheese filling: Using a hand mixer, beat the room temperature cream cheese and granulated sugar in a large bowl until smooth, creamy, and light in texture.
- Incorporate cream and vanilla: Pour in the heavy whipping cream and pure vanilla extract. Continue mixing with the hand mixer until the mixture is fully combined and smooth.
- Assemble the salad: Carefully spread the cream cheese filling evenly over the pretzel crust layer. Then, arrange the sliced strawberries and blueberries on top as desired, creating a colorful red, white, and blue effect.
- Chill and set: Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the layers to set and the flavors to meld beautifully before serving.
Notes
- Using room temperature cream cheese helps achieve a smoother filling.
- If you use salted butter, omit the additional salt in the crust mixture.
- For best results, press the pretzel crust firmly to create a compact base that holds together well.
- This dessert is best served chilled and can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Feel free to substitute other fresh berries like raspberries or blackberries if desired.
