Ingredients
Base Ingredients
- 5 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 1/4 cup butter
- 4 cups mini marshmallows
Decorations
- 3 tablespoons red, white, and blue sprinkles
Instructions
- Prepare the pan: Lightly grease an 8×8-inch pan to prevent sticking and set aside for later use.
- Measure the cereal: Pour 5 cups of Rice Krispies cereal into a large mixing bowl and set aside.
- Melt the butter: In a saucepan over low heat, melt 1/4 cup butter carefully to avoid browning.
- Add the marshmallows: Once the butter is melted, add 4 cups of mini marshmallows to the pan. Stir constantly with a rubber spatula until the marshmallows are fully melted and the mixture is smooth.
- Combine cereal and marshmallow mixture: Pour the melted marshmallow mixture over the Rice Krispies cereal in the bowl. Stir gently but thoroughly until all the cereal is coated.
- Incorporate sprinkles: Fold in 2 tablespoons of the red, white, and blue sprinkles gently into the mixture for color and texture.
- Transfer to pan and press down: Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared pan. Use a piece of wax or parchment paper to press it down firmly and flatten the top.
- Add remaining sprinkles: Sprinkle the last tablespoon of sprinkles evenly over the top and gently press them into the treats so they adhere.
- Cool and set: Let the treats cool completely at room temperature or speed up the process by placing the pan in the fridge for about 5 minutes.
- Cut and serve: Once set, cut the treats into 9 evenly sized squares and enjoy your festive Red, White, and Blue Rice Krispie Treats!
Notes
- Use mini marshmallows for best melting and even coating of the cereal.
- Lightly greasing the pan or lining it with parchment paper will help remove the treats easily.
- Pressing the treats firmly into the pan helps them hold together when cutting.
- Refrigerating after pressing helps the treats firm up faster but is optional.
- You can substitute sprinkles to match other themes or occasions as desired.
