Ingredients
Wonton Cups
- 24 wonton wrappers
- ½ tbsp olive oil
- ½ onion, chopped
- 1 lb ground beef (can substitute ground turkey or ground chicken)
- 1 packet taco seasoning (about 3 tbsp)
- 1 cup salsa
- 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
Toppings
- Sour cream, for serving
- 2 roma tomatoes, chopped
- ¼ cup chopped green onion
- 2 tbsp chopped cilantro
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to get ready for baking the taco cups.
- Cook Onion and Beef: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and a pinch of salt, cooking until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Add ground beef and taco seasoning, cooking until the beef is browned and fully cooked. Stir in salsa and remove from heat.
- Prepare Muffin Tin: Spray a 12-cup muffin tin with cooking spray to prevent sticking. Line each muffin cup with one wonton wrapper, gently pressing it to fit the bottom and sides to form a cup shape.
- Fill Taco Cups – Layer 1: Spoon about half of the ground beef mixture evenly into each wonton cup. Sprinkle a layer of shredded cheddar cheese over the beef.
- Fill Taco Cups – Layer 2: Place another wonton wrapper on top of the cheese layer in each cup, pressing lightly. Add the remaining ground beef mixture on top, then finish with the remaining cheddar cheese.
- Bake: Bake the filled wonton cups in the preheated oven for 12 to 13 minutes, or until the wonton wrappers are crispy and golden brown.
- Serve and Garnish: Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly. Top each taco cup with a dollop of sour cream, then garnish with chopped roma tomatoes, green onions, and cilantro before serving.
Notes
- You can substitute ground turkey or ground chicken for a lighter version.
- For extra crispiness, brush the wonton wrappers lightly with olive oil before layering.
- Customize toppings according to your preference; add jalapeños or avocado for extra flavor.
- Serve immediately after baking for the best texture.
- Leftover taco cups can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator and reheated in the oven to maintain crispiness.
