These Best Taco Cups are a fun and delicious twist on traditional tacos, featuring crispy wonton wrappers filled with seasoned ground beef, salsa, and melted cheddar cheese. Perfect for parties or family dinners, they combine bold flavors and a crunchy texture, topped with fresh sour cream, tomatoes, green onions, and cilantro for a vibrant finish.

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings

Ingredients

Wonton Cups

  • 24 wonton wrappers
  • ½ tbsp olive oil
  • ½ onion, chopped
  • 1 lb ground beef (can substitute ground turkey or ground chicken)
  • 1 packet taco seasoning (about 3 tbsp)
  • 1 cup salsa
  • 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese

Toppings

  • Sour cream, for serving
  • 2 roma tomatoes, chopped
  • ¼ cup chopped green onion
  • 2 tbsp chopped cilantro

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to get ready for baking the taco cups.
  2. Cook Onion and Beef: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and a pinch of salt, cooking until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Add ground beef and taco seasoning, cooking until the beef is browned and fully cooked. Stir in salsa and remove from heat.
  3. Prepare Muffin Tin: Spray a 12-cup muffin tin with cooking spray to prevent sticking. Line each muffin cup with one wonton wrapper, gently pressing it to fit the bottom and sides to form a cup shape.
  4. Fill Taco Cups – Layer 1: Spoon about half of the ground beef mixture evenly into each wonton cup. Sprinkle a layer of shredded cheddar cheese over the beef.
  5. Fill Taco Cups – Layer 2: Place another wonton wrapper on top of the cheese layer in each cup, pressing lightly. Add the remaining ground beef mixture on top, then finish with the remaining cheddar cheese.
  6. Bake: Bake the filled wonton cups in the preheated oven for 12 to 13 minutes, or until the wonton wrappers are crispy and golden brown.
  7. Serve and Garnish: Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly. Top each taco cup with a dollop of sour cream, then garnish with chopped roma tomatoes, green onions, and cilantro before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or ground chicken for a lighter version.
  • For extra crispiness, brush the wonton wrappers lightly with olive oil before layering.
  • Customize toppings according to your preference; add jalapeños or avocado for extra flavor.
  • Serve immediately after baking for the best texture.
  • Leftover taco cups can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator and reheated in the oven to maintain crispiness.
